The HEROES-GLOBE workshop was conducted from 10th January till 14th January, 2022, at the UWICER headquarters in Lamai Goempa, Bumthang. The 5-day workshop was attended by 12 focal teachers from across the country and a few UWICER staff.

The main objective of the workshop was to train the HEROES focal teachers for GLOBE implementation in Bhutan. The GLOBE Program has been providing students and the public worldwide with the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to our understanding of the Earth system and global environment. They also work to build a collaborative, worldwide community of students, teachers, scientists, and citizens to conduct real-world research.

The morning sessions were mostly taken up by GLOBE, during which the participants were trained on the four themes/spheres: biosphere, atmosphere, pedosphere, and hydrosphere. They also learned about the various protocols under each of these spheres. These sessions were facilitated by resource persons from the GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO) and other GLOBE members from Thailand and India.

The afternoon sessions focused on HEROES activities, which included training on the new HEROES website, collecting observation data, and carrying out data analysis on both phenology and climate data.

The workshop was organized by UWICER with funding support from the Karuna Foundation through the Bhutan Foundation.
